Chelation therapy is an intravenous therapy that safely and effectively binds to, or chelates, toxic metals including, lead, mercury, arsenic, cadmium and aluminum. Chelating agents are organic compounds that include Ca-EDTA, DMSA, and DMPS. This is an important therapy for anyone who may suffer from cardiovascular disease or chronic illness, as the human body builds up storage of these metals over several years, unable to eliminate them through normal physiologic processes.
In cardiovascular disease, chelation helps to reduce the oxidative damage that creates calcium deposits leading to plaque build-up in the arteries. Current research shows that chelation therapy increases the body’s natural production of nitric oxide in the blood vessel wall. Nitric oxide helps to relax smooth muscles in the arteries allowing for increased delivery of blood, oxygen and other vital nutrients to the tissues. There is an overall effect of enhanced circulation, improved kidney function, a reduction in chest pain and blood pressure, increased exercise tolerance and brain function.
In heavy metal toxicity, chelation helps to pull metals from various tissues in the body to reduce symptoms of chronic disease and excrete these substances out of the body.

Research has documented numerous benefits from chelation therapy. If you suffer from or have a family history of heart disease, diabetes, arthritis or osteoporosis you should be tested for heavy metal toxicity to determine if chelation therapy is right for you. All patents have an initial consultation with one of our doctors. This is followed by something called a "provocation" test where a chelating substance is administered and either urine or stool is collected for analysis for metal content in a lab. Once the results are received a chelation plan is determined.
All of our doctors at the West Vancouver Wellness Centre have completed additional certification to practice chelation therapy.
